November 8, 2006 (kristen)
Meeting 2: November 8, 2006
Present: Ashley, Kristen, Nick "hick", Dan, Matt
Location: Library
Time: 10:30-11:30am
Today's meeting with Dr. Ricketts and the group, focused upon learning about the different resources that were available at special collections, and then utilizing the information for our specific topic.
Research Performed:
*Looked through the 1943 yearbook "The Oak"
*Paged through the town heritage book for Indiana, PA (found a picture of Sutton Hall when it was it's largest, with the Thomas Sutton annex)
*Started looking through "Our Homage and Our Love" by Ron Juliette and Dale E. Landon
- I really think this book will end up being my main source for information as it had a whole chapter devoted to Sutton Hall
- page 12 - "The School on the Hill"
--> land owned by J. Sutton was sold to the university for the building
--> architect was James W. Drum and his plan was officially chosen on August 12, 1872
--> groundbreaking in Spring of 1873
- page 22 - "Main building was more than the physcial plant. Principal, faculty, and students blended their lives in joint educational, social, and domestic activities. It was truly home for those who enrolled."
